Introduction
On Thursday, 22 March, 2007, An Bord Pleanala gave us the go-ahead for the redevelopment of Lansdowne Road Stadium into a new 50,000 capacity all-seater stadium. This was the culmination of 2.5 years hard work by the Lansdowne Road Stadium Development Company (LRSDC), a joint venture between the IRFU and the FAI.
LRSDC was originally set up in September 2004 by the then Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, Minister John O'Donoghue. The company's remit was to be responsible for the construction and management of the proposed new stadium.
Planning permission for the stadium was first granted by Dublin City Council in July 2006 and An Bord Pleanala's decision in March 2007 confirmed the planning permission.
Work on the site began almost immediately with the old stadium being demolished over a four month period. Work is now well underway on the construction of the new stadium which has a proposed completion date of early 2010.
